Minister Stubb to make a Team Finland trip to Norway

Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb will travel to Hammerfest, Norway, on 17–19 September. He will be accompanied by representatives from 37 Finnish enterprises, operating in such sectors as construction, technology, energy and shipbuilding. The business delegation was assembled by Finpro.

Norway is one of the world’s wealthiest countries and is therefore and important market area for Finland as well. In spite of Europe’s weak economic situation, Norway’s economic growth estimate for this year is 2.8 per cent. In 2012, the volume of trade between Finland and Norway was almost four billion euros; Finnish exports to Norway amounted to EUR 1.8 billion and the imports to EUR 2.2 billion. Compared to the previous year, our exports increased by as much as 13 per cent, and the growth is expected to continue this year as well.

Norway’s economic growth is mainly based on energy and offshore industry. Oil and gas production has now been expanded to the Barents Sea, which offers business opportunities for Finnish companies as well.

Minister Stubb will give a speed at a business seminar to be held in Hammerfest and visit the LNG plant of Melkøya, producing liquefied natural gas, and Polarbase that provides, for example, port and maintenance services.
