The Permanent Representative of Finland in Geneva, Ambassador Päivi Kairamo, chairs the General Assembly at the 52nd Series of Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The WIPO Assemblies is the most important annual meeting of the organization. This year there will be an extraordinary meeting from 10 to 12 December, which will concentrate especially on the WIPO budget.
The World Intellectual Property Organization, established in 1967, currently has 186 Member States. The latest major achievements of the WIPO include the 2013 Marrakech Treaty, aimed at improving the availability of published materials for visually impaired persons, and the 2012 Beijing Treaty on audiovisual representations.
