The Permanent Representative of Finland in Geneva, Ambassador Päivi Kairamo, was elected as chairperson of the General Assembly at the 51st Series of Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The WIPO Assemblies is the most important annual meeting of the organization. This year the discussions will take place from 23 September to 2 October, and decisions are to be made covering whole of the field that WIPO operates on.
The World Intellectual Property Organization, established in 1967, currently has 186 Member States. The latest major achievements of the WIPO include the 2013 Marrakech Treaty, aimed at improving the availability of published materials for visually impaired persons, and the 2012 Beijing Treaty on audiovisual representations.
