Minister Stubb to a Team Finland trip to Germany

Press release 237/2013
7 November 2013

Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb will make a Team Finland trip to Germany on 12–13 November. The places he will visit are Berlin and Munich. The purpose of the trip is to strengthen the image of Finland as a country with a high level of competence and an attractive target for investments, as well as to promote the business opportunities of Finnish companies in Germany, and Bavaria in particular.

In Berlin, Minister Stubb will open an energy day, arranged by the German-Finnish Chamber of Commerce, with also Finnish companies as participants. The focus areas of the energy day include renewable sources of energy and cleantech. In addition, the Minister’s programme will include a talk at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and meetings with leading officials from the Federal Chancellery, the Minister of State of the Federal Foreign Office, and the management of the Federation of German Industries.

In Munich, Minister Stubb and the business delegation will meet major German investors, which will be given a presentation of Finland’s strengths as a target for investments. The seminar organised by Finpro, on the other hand, will present Finnish enterprises to German companies and actors, and explore cooperation opportunities in various sectors. The Minister and the delegation will also meet the Bavarian minister of economic affairs, energy and technology, and make a visit at Siemens.

Germany is Finland’s second largest trading partner. In 2012, imports from Germany to Finland amounted to EUR 7.3 billion and Finland’s exports to Germany to EUR 5.2 billion. In the longer run, Germany’s share of Finland’s imports has been around 14–15 per cent and of exports approximately 11–12 per cent. In 2012, however, exports and imports fell from the previous year’s level, Germany’s share of imports being 12.3 per cent and of exports 9.2 per cent.

The companies participating in the visit to Berlin are: Eltel, Fortum, Invest in Finland, Metso, Neste Oil, UPM and Wärtsilä.

The companies and actors participating in the visit to Munich are: Bergmann Attorneys at Law, Attorneys at Law Borenius Ltd, Ecobio, Ensto, Finnair, Finnvera, Forchem, Forest Btl, Haave, Lappeenranta University of Technology, Neste Oil, Nordea, Outotec, Savonlinna Region Business Advisory Services, Stalatube, Vaasa Region Development Company, VNT Management, and Wärtsilä.
