Press release 257/2013
11 December 2013
Team Finland network is seeking new ways to promote innovations and inclusive business in developing countries. On 11 December, the Business and Civil Society Forum, which convened under the chairmanship of Minister for International Development Pekka Haavisto and State Secretary of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy Marja Rislakki, published the proposals for measures concerning new forms of cooperation drawn up by the Task Force on Innovations for Development and Business.
The Task Force on Innovations for Development and Business was set up by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Employment and the Economy in February 2013. The members included representatives from the Team Finland network, the business sector, universities and NGOs.
The Task Force proposes establishment of a new innovations for development programme and an innovations for development fund. The purpose of the programme would be to find sustainable solutions for reduction of poverty and promotion of sustainable innovations and business for development. To qualify for financial support, the projects would need to have positive impact on development, such as creation of decent jobs in the private sector in developing countries and products and services that benefit poor people.
The programme would gather together the monitoring services on knowledge and markets. It would provide support and development services for actors within the field and facilitate flexible multi-objective financing. The jointly financed programme would combine the development, growth and innovation funding services provided by various ministries into a single entity. The programme could also support joint pilot projects implemented in collaboration between enterprises, NGOs and other actors.
The preparation of the programme will begin immediately, so that it could be launched by the end 2014. The preparations of the programme will be linked as part of Team Finland strategy work to be conducted in spring 2014, and its implementation.
